Submitter: Scott Pittman (rsprgv@aol.com)
Date: 23 May 1999

I am researching the Pittman families in Champaign and Piatte, Counties. This particular querie concerns George W(ashington) M(aly) Pittman of Mahomet, IL. This is not one of my direct ancestors, but I believe that there is a possible connection. This George W.M. Pittman has a biography in the biography section of this site. My Aunt has a family bible which has a commencement announcement for the Indiana Asbury University, in Greencastle, IN dated 27 June 1867. In it there are 2 Pittmans listed as being graduated -- George Washington Maly Pittman and Johnson Pittman. Johnson is a part of my line. Here's the brief on George W. M. Pittman -- b. 11 Sep 1847, Butler co., OH. s⁄o George Pittman b. New Jersey. G. W. M. came to OH at an early age. m. Eliza Boke of Butler co., OH. They had 9 children -- 6 were living at the time of the bio (I don't have the date). The only child mentioned is DuBois Pittman who was in the 126th Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and died in a conflict. G. W. M. Pittman left OH in 1856 and settled in Mahomet, Champaign co., IL. My line, Aaron F.(ord) Pittman b.14 Aug 1811, OH d. 19 Apr 1900; m. 24 Apr 1831, OH, Catherine Baker b. 17 Sep 1815, d. c. 1896 near Mansfield, Piatte, IL. There were 9 children including George W.( b.1837), Leonard (b. 1845)(my great-grandfather) and Johnson (b. 1851)--I have the other names, but to save space. They came to Mansfield area in Piatte co., in 1853. Mansfield and Mahomet are not far apart. 3 years is not far apart. So I am wondering if 1). G.W.M. Pittman's father could have been my Aaron's brother, and if 2). Is there anyone out there that knows about this particular G. W. M. Pittman? If any of this strikes a chord to anyone, please e-mail.
