I am looking for any and all information regarding my ggg-grandfather, Richard ALLEN, b-10 Mar 1814, Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY, who married Mary E. NYE from Athens Co, OH. They were the parents of Joseph R. ALLEN, born, I believe, in Champaign Co, IL. I am specifically looking for something that might give the maiden name of Richard's mother Phebe. His father was Samuel ALLEN from Dutchess Co, NY. If anyone has access to death records, wills or obituaries from the late 1800's in Champaign Co and could look this up for me, I would appreciate it. I know that Richard's wife died in Urbana, IL, so it is likely that Richard did too, but I don't have a date. Any information on Joseph R. ALLEN would be much appreciated also as what I know of him is also sketchy. He was married in Dawson, Dallas, IA to Mary Louise LEWIS and died in 1928 also in Dawson. Thank you!

Submitter: Elizabeth Schmitt (schmitt@umr.edu)
Date: 20 Apr 1998

I am looking for information on a family that appears in the 1860 census of Champaign Co., p. 390, #776 (Twn 20N, Range 8E). I am unable to read the husband's name (possibly Francis or Thomas Easterman). He is age 27, a carpenter, born IN. His wife is Sarah E., age 25, born MA. Can anyone suggest a way to identify who this couple might have been. In the household is a 1 year old infant, Nelson Clouser, born IL. I believe this may be the son of David Clouser (my great grandfather) and Mary Elizabeth Toy who were married in Champaign Co. on 25 Mar 1858. She apparently died in childbirth, and David again married Ann Reed on 23 Oct 1860 in Champaign Co. The next two families in the census are a Richard Waugh and wife Rebecca and a William C. Fisher and wife, Jemima. Both of these wives are sisters of David Clouser's mother. So I think perhaps the family that has Nelson may also be related, if I could figure out who they were. We do not know who Mary Elizabeth Toy's parents were.

DAVIS, Asa and Mary Jane of Champaign Co, IL. I am seeking information regarding these two people who are my 2G grandparents. Specifically, would someone be able to look up the following: death info such as date, location and cemetary where buried, and, if possible, any land records and wills for them. Death info most important at this time, particularly if it gives Asa's birthdate and specific location and perhaps his parent's names. Here is what I know about Asa and Mary Jane. Both show up in the 1870 and 1880 federal census in Brown Township. They, along with family, moved to IL from IN after 1862. In 1880, Asa was aged 62 and Mary Jane aged 57. Also in 1880 there were 3 children still at home: Augustus (22 yrs), Theodore (19 yrs), and Hampton (12 yrs). As yet have not found them in 1900 census. Asa was born in OH and Mary was born in IN.
